The Ontario Elite Hockey League will make history when its champion is crowned this spring.

The OEHL’s 2025 “AA” playoff champion will not only win the J.F. Paxton Trophy, but will also be granted admission to the Allan Cup Challenge tournament, which will be played April 20-26 in Waterdown, Ont., hosted by the Wentworth Gryphins.

“This is a significant step in the recognition of the quality of the OEHL’s product, and a historic moment, marking the first time ever a senior “AA” team will compete for the Allan Cup.”

OEHL Commissioner Rick Richardson

Established in 1909, the Allan Cup is awarded to Canada’s senior hockey champions. It is the country’s oldest national hockey championship.

The OEHL champion will be joined at the Allan Cup Challenge by host Wentworth. Also competing are defending champion Dundas Real McCoys, Stoney Creek Tigers, and two teams from Newfoundland & Labrador, the St. John’s Rooftech Capitals and Clarenville Ford Caribous.

The OEHL champion will have an opportunity to boost their lineup at the Allan Cup Challenge. They will be able to borrow up to six skaters and one goalie from other OEHL teams.

A previously announced playoff series between the OEHL champion and Sr. AAA Allan Cup Hockey League champion will not take place as it is no longer required.

The 2024-25 OEHL regular season concludes this weekend, with the 2025 playoffs set to start the weekend of February 7th. Full playoff matchups and schedules will be posted on OEHLHockey.ca when finalized.
