Hugh McLean Trophy

The Hugh McLean Trophy will be awarded to the champions of the OEHL “A” Playoffs.

About the Trophy

The Hugh McLean Trophy is believed to have been created in the 1970s as the championship trophy of the Continental Sr. A Hockey League.

Later, it was used as part of the OHA Sr. A Hockey League (the predecessor of present-day Allan Cup Hockey) in the 1980s, most likely as a regular season championship trophy.

Named in honour of the late Hugh McLean, a longtime OHA and NHL referee, who also served as president of the OHA from 1976-1978. McLean was also a driving force behind the creation of the Continental league.

The OEHL has been granted use of the Hugh McLean Trophy, to be awarded to the champion of the OEHL/OHA Sr. “A” playoffs.
